The Chair of ACL, Lesley Cowley said “I am delighted to welcome Neil to ACL. Whilst our current CEO will be much missed, we are confident that Neil’s experience, drive and values make him an ideal successor to lead ACL as we emerge from the pandemic”.
The new CEO, Neil Garwood said “I am excited to be joining the world’s leading independent airport coordination organisation at a time of seismic change in the industry and very much look forward to continuing to deliver on ACL’s ambition of world class coordination excellence for our customers and stakeholders”.

Northern Summer 2021 (NS21) WASB Slot Waiver Announcement
27/11/20The Worldwide Airport Slot Board (WASB) issued its recommendation for airport slot alleviation measures covering the Northern Summer 2021 scheduling season. The following provides some initial guidance to give clarity on its application at airports coordinated by ACL to avoid unintended consequences should airlines apply the WASB recommendation immediately.
VALIDITY
The WASB announcement is a recommendation. For a waiver to be applied, the Regulatory or competent authority needs to adopt this recommendation or issue an alternative waiver. Across all ACL airports this has not yet occurred so currently NO waiver for Northern Summer 2021 is being applied.
When the position changes, ACL will update its guidance.
CANCELLATIONS IN ADVANCE OF A WAIVER
Any cancellation made prior to a waiver being issued may impact on your ability to retain the historic slot. For example, a full season slot returned before alleviation has been granted will be returned to the slot pool and reallocated based on the waitlist at that time.
FURTHER GUIDANCE
Once ACL is aware of the detail of any formal waivers, it will review and where necessary provide further guidance. The current guidance on alleviation can be found here.
ACL TO GRANT ALLEVIATION FROM USE-IT-OR-LOSE-IT RULE, SUMMER 2020
27/03/20ACL acknowledges that the European institutions have decided to extend the temporary waiver from non-use of slots proposed by the European Commission so that it covers the full Summer 2020 season.
ACL will grant alleviation from non-use of slots to airlines at the 11 airports it coordinates across the European Union and the United Kingdom from 1 March 2020 to 24 October 2020; and alleviation from non-use of slots for flights to and from mainland China and Hong Kong for the period from 23 January 2020 to 29 February 2020.
Airlines are required to hand back slots that they seek to claim alleviation for at the earliest opportunity. Slots that are held and are not subsequently operated will not be granted alleviation as other carriers will have been denied the opportunity to use the available capacity.

ACL Appoints Lesley Cowley as Chair of the Board
19/11/19The Board of the world’s leading airport coordinator, Airport Coordination Limited, is pleased to announce that Lesley Cowley OBE is to become its new Chair succeeding Jeff Halliwell, whose term of office comes to an end in March 2020.
Lesley brings to ACL her wide experience as a non-executive director including chairing the boards of the DVLA, The National Archives and Companies House. In October 2019, she was named as Non-Executive Director of the year in the Institute of Directors (IoD) Awards.

Lesley said:
“I’m excited to be joining ACL’s Board to help guide the company as it manages the pressures of coordination at a growing number of constrained airports while staying at the forefront of technical progress and customer service.”
Lesley’s appointment will take effect from 1 January 2020 as Chair-designate and she will become Chair when Jeff leaves the role at the end of March.
Edmond Rose, Chief Executive Officer, noted:
“As we look forward to welcoming Lesley Cowley to ACL’s Board, I’d like to record my sincere thanks to Jeff Halliwell for the role he’s played as Chair since 2013, guiding the Board through a period of major development for ACL and its governance.”
